What to Expect –
One of our credit counselors will go over the basics of the credit report review session with you so you can gain insight on what you’re going to learn during the session. The session is completely private and always performed by a highly trained and certified credit counselor.
The credit counselor will provide you with a complete overview of what’s on your credit report and may offer some suggestions that could potentially help increase your credit score in the future. (Note: We do not offer credit report repairs or maintenance) The purpose of this Credit Report Review session is to ensure that you have a better understanding of your credit report and to give you some guidance on possible ways to improve your credit worthiness. Nevertheless, there is no guarantee that we will be able to provide advice on how to increase your credit score, this will be determined on a case by case basis.
We only pull a credit report from Experian and do not pull from any other credit reporting bureau. If you would like to review your credit report from the other major reporting bureaus, you must bring a copy of that report with you to the session. We recommend that you pull the other copies of your credit report from www.annualcreditreport.com and bring them with you to the session. It’s federal law that you are allowed to obtain copies of your credit reports once a year for free through the website listed above. Do not trust those other “free” credit report websites that you see advertisements for because they are not really free.
After completing the session, you will have a full understanding what’s on your credit report, what your FICO credit score is used for, the importance of using credit wisely, and how to keep your credit report up-to-date and correct. All of this information will help you keep a better handle on your personal finances and help you fix any errors on your credit report (sample dispute letter for creditors will be provided). Checking your credit report regularly is a crucial step in protecting yourself from identity theft, fraud, or inaccurate reporting information; which happens more often than you think.
